Mike Coffin – Board President
He approaches sexual violence prevention from a different angle. He has an extensive background in fighting and self-defense, and owns schools that offer as much to civilians, military and law enforcement. His schools have been nominated as the #1 martial arts school in DFW two years in a row. What they teach is not traditional martial arts, but rather Krav Maga. A military based, “real” self defense system used by the most elite combat groups, the central training system of the Israeli military, and law enforcement organizations around the world. They have had several students around the US attacked and successfully fend off attackers.
Mike Simpfenderfer, a mortgage banker in the greater Los Angeles area with multiple state and federal licenses, is Treasurer of PAVE’sExecutive Committee. A father who suddenly, like all protective parents, found himself protecting his teenage daughter from a family member who abused and a mother who abandoned. Both Mike and his daughter, Taylor, realized and learned the process of healing and seeking justice is a long process. After relocating to another city for Taylor’s safety and a suicide attempt, Taylor ended up graduating from high school months early and a raised grade point average. Taylor is focused obtaining her California real estate license and working on behalf of others. After meeting Angela Rose and fellow activists Robin Sax and Dr. Cheryl Arutt, Mike knew he had to help with the mission and focus of PAVE. He has worked and lived in the South, Midwest, East Coast, Southeast Asia and the California/Mexico boarder. Above, Mike spoke at a PAVE media event in Long Beach CA.
Wendy Rose Bice is a freelance writer, editor of Michigan Jewish History,author of three local history books and a seasoned marketing and public relations professional. She attributes her 25-year career success to her philosophy of finding the heart of a subject and sharing inspirational stories of remarkable people and organizations with others. Throughout her career she’s provided communications services to a variety non-profit and for-profit agencies; businesses and corporations. Much of her career has centered on women’s issues including breast cancer and breast health and reproductive rights. Wendy’s ability to strategically identify and m anage issues and opportunities has been appreciated by many clients and her work with the Karmanos Cancer Institute earned her a Heroes of Breast Cancer award in 2001. She is the mother of three incredible teenagers/young adults and the wife of a supportive and loving husband.
Dr. Arutt graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she received UCLA’s College of Letters and Sciences College Honors, Women’s Studies Departmental Honors, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In college, she became a certified Rape and Domestic Violence counselor, and later, a trainer for Peace Over Violence, L.A.’s longest-standing Rape & Battering Hotline.
She earned a Doctor of Psychology degree from California School of Professional Psychology-Los Angeles, where she received the Outstanding Doctoral Project award for her clinical dissertation. Postgraduate training at the prestigious Wright Institute Los Angeles culminated in a Certificate of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She has worked at Verdugo Mental Health Center, Catholic Charities Psychological Services and the LAGLC, where she and a colleague wrote and adapted what became the nation’s first Court-approved program for same-sex batterers; STOP Domestic Violence is currently the largest, most comprehensive program of its kind in the world. Mentored by Barbara Cort Counter, Ph.D. in psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy and forensic evaluation, Dr. Arutt was able to develop advanced psychotherapy and diagnostic skills for both private therapy and for the legal system. Dr. Arutt has continued to enrich her knowledge by participating in professional study groups, including those led by renowned interpersonal neuropsychiatrist and authorDan Siegel, MD, and Psychoanalytic Center of California training and supervising analyst James Gooch, MD.
In addition to her private practice, Dr. Arutt has been an Adjunct Professor at California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, teaching Clinical Interviewing, Ethics and Professional Development, Sex Roles and Gender, and Intercultural Processes and Human Diversity to Ph.D and Psy.D. students. She provides clinical consultation and supervision, and enjoys giving talks about psychotherapy, gender, trauma recovery, infertility and other psychological issues at California Graduate Institute, UCLA, Los Angeles City College, and other educational, corporate and community settings, as well as appearing as a frequent guest commentator on television networks such as CNN, HLN and Fox News.
Andrea Metcalf is a celebrity fitness expert and healthy lifestyle spokesperson. With almost thirty years of teaching, training and inspiring people, she helps people make small changes for big results. With over a dozen appearances on the NBC Today Show, GMA Health and Better TV, she has a best selling book, Naked Fitness (Vanguard Press) which helps people strip away the excuses to feel good in their own skin.
She has several blogging contributions including Oprah.com, HuffingtonPost.com, Womensforum.com, Exmainer.com and many others. Her passion in helping people rid themselves of pain and lose weight goes beyond personal contact with online classes, webinars and speaking across the country.
Andrea finds time to give back climbing Mt Kilamanjaro to spread the word for Ovarian Cancer, hosts many health events with both Diabetes Association and Lymphoma walks as well donates time to mentor students at both DePaul University and Columbia College. Health advocate, media personality, adventure traveler, producer and mom.
Sandee Kastrul is the president of i.c.stars, and has been working in education for the past ten years focusing on cross-curricular integration strategies, diversity training and curriculum development. She implemented a professional development program with Harold Washington College Career and designed a comprehensive science and civics interactive program for GED students at Jobs For Youth. She is a consultant for the Illinois Resource Center providing School Corporations with diversity training and cross-cultural teaching methodologies throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Ms. Kastrul holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ithaca College. www.icstars.org
Josh C. Rubin, JD, MBA, MPH, MPP, is the Executive Director of the Joseph H. Kanter Family Foundation and Health Legacy Partnership (KFF). Josh is exceptionally committed to realizing KFF’s vision for a Learning Health System (LHS) that will advance medical research and patient safety, transform the practice of medicine, and empower clinicians and patients.
Josh previously served as Senior Policy Fellow at eHealth Initiative (eHI). While at eHI, Josh developed a comprehensive analysis of needs and requirements for the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) related to developing an electronic data exchange (e-Platform) for information concerning FDA-regulated products, and provided project management oversight and technical support related to assisting the FDA in developing an active electronic post-market safety surveillance initiative (Sentinel). Before joining eHI, Josh was a Senior Consultant at IBM’s government healthcare strategy and change consulting team. At IBM, Josh supported organizational change initiatives at federal government healthcare clients including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
A graduate of Georgetown University’s College of Arts and Sciences and a life member of American MENSA, Josh holds a Juris Doctor (JD) law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. He also holds an MBA from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, an MPH from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and an MPP from Georgetown Public Policy Institute, all with healthcare concentrations.
Dr. Michelle Golland is the Clinical Psychologist the media turns to when they need an expert’s opinion on psychological issues related to anything in popular culture and current events. She can be seen on such shows as Felt (LOGO), Shahs of Sunset (Bravo), and other national network television news and current event programming: Good Morning America (ABC), The Today Show (NBC), Larry King Live, Piers Morgan Live (CNN), Prime News, Jane Valez-Mitchell, The Nancy Grace Show (HLN), The O’Reilly Factor (Fox News), and MSNBC. She is also a regular on HLN’s Dr. Drew On Call, and frequently appears on My Fox LA.
Her private practice at The Loft @ Larchmont Village in Los Angeles, California focuses on issues relating to adults, couples and families. She also serves as a parenting expert and advocate to families. Dr. Michelle is currently serving on the board of PAVE, an organization whose mission is to shatter the silence around sexual abuse.
Dr. Michelle’s education featured an emphasis in Multi-Cultural and Community Psychology. She sees her role in the media and in her private practice as an advocate for the underserved and an educator regarding all things related to mental and emotional well-being.
Kitty Kurth is President of Kurth Lampe, a political consulting/public relations firm she founded with her husband, Kevin Lampe in 1996. Kurth Lampe is a Chicago-based consulting firm dedicated to the effective communication of its clients’ ideas, proposals, and viewpoints.
Experience Over the past several years Kurth Lampe has provided clients with wide ranging services such as public relations and communications strategies for individuals, groups and corporations on a national and international level; campaign and media relations to local, state and federal campaigns in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan; public affairs; and grassroots organizing for a variety of local and national non-profit groups.

Robin Sax a former deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County specializing in sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and stalking cases. Robin is now an outspoken advocate fighting for victims as well as a legal commentator on national television shows including Larry King Live, Nancy Grace, The Today Show, and The Early Show. Sax is a host of Justice Interrupted Radio, a top-ranking radio show that highlights cases that have not received media attention that desperately need awareness via media outlets. Though her voice is that of a prosecutor she has gained notoriety as an advocate for victim’s rights, insuring that the judicial system is working properly and that there are appropriate sentences for offenders, resources for law enforcement, and education for everyone.
Sax has authored six books including is Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe, It Happens Every Day: Inside the World of a Sex Crimes D.A, and The Complete Idiots Guide to the Criminal Justice System and Everything I Learned About Parenting I Learned in Court. She is also a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law and Attorney Assistant Training Program, and an adjunct professor at the California State, Los Angeles, School of Criminal Justice.www.robinsax.com
