PAVE’s History
PAVE
was created by Angela Rose in February 2001. PAVE uses social, educational,
and legislative tactics to shatter the silence of sexual violence. PAVE
aims to break the stereotypes and commonly believed myths about rape
and sexual assault, as well as empower people to realize that there
is no shame in being a survivor. Every person knows a survivor, but
sadly sexual assault is a silent crime that plagues our society. PAVE
is not just for survivors, but everyone who realizes how widespread
these issues are in our society. PAVE was built on inclusiveness, respect
of ourselves and each other, and grassroots activism.
PAVE (Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment) has two aspects as shown in the name; one is public awareness for a silent crime that is plaguing our society, sexual assault, but of equal importance is the profound journey from being victimized to thinking of yourself as a survivor. For some this journey may take a lifetime, though every person and situation is unique. PAVE is not limited to survivors, we advocate for everyone to use their voice and take small pieces of action our daily lives. It is up to each of us and our communities to...
