Throughout history religious communities have been at the forefront of change in several areas of human rights and protection. However on the issue of sexual violence there is still great silence in our mosques, churches, synagogues, temples, and houses of worship and prayer, which are filled with victims and survivors. Whether the sexual harm originated inside or outside the faith community or sect PAVE believes religious leaders and congregations have a responsibility to support and empower victims in their healing physically, emotionally and spiritually.
The goals of our International Faith Campaign are: 1) to raise awareness in faith-based organizations that survivors are in their congregations, and 2) to develop resources and programs for victims of sexual violence based on their faith or spiritual preference. PAVE hopes to partner with your faith community to better educate its members on collaborative efforts to shatter the silence!
‘It’s in our Pews’
This program is a call to the faith community and their leaders to bring awareness of sexual violence in our communities. In times of tragedy, people often turn to their faith for a sense of hope and comfort in their efforts to recovery. Many survivors are re-victimized once they begin to share their experience creating a strong silence around the issue of sexual violence. This campaign is a hope to shatter that silence by creating a platform for victims to not only talk about their experiences but also find support from their faith and spiritual leaders.
