The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) community is often neglected in efforts to end sexual violence due to the heterosexual bias that exists in society’s understanding of sexual assault. PAVE acknowledges that sexual violence can occur between any two (or more) individuals regardless of their biological sex, self-identified gender, or sexual orientation.
The goal of this campaign is two-fold: 1) to raise awareness in our society about the sexual violence committed within and against the LGBTQ community, and 2) to create more partnerships within the lesbian and gay community to address all forms of intimate partner violence therein. All issues of violence from abusive relationships to hate crimes against members of the LGBTQ community must be addressed to successfully end sexual violence.
